Why I Coined the Term Lingo Leverage™

Sandeep Kondury coined the term Lingo Leverage™ after years with founders and VCs. The origin story: why language shapes markets, how it became his investment thesis, and where he first shared it—including his TEDx talk on the global TED platform.

I coined the term Lingo Leverage™ after years working with founders, investors, and high-growth startups—including evaluating 1,500+ startups as a part-time Sr. Venture Associate at Startup Haven. I repeatedly saw the same pattern: the companies that won weren't always the most technically advanced, but they were the ones that controlled how people talked about the problem.

Traditional marketing focuses on distribution and messaging, but it ignores the deeper layer of how language shapes perception, trust, and decision-making.

From Observation to Framework

Lingo Leverage™ formalizes this phenomenon into a strategic framework founders can use intentionally. Instead of hoping customers adopt your narrative, you design the language of the category itself. I first broke down the characteristics of Lingo Leverage in my TEDx talk chosen for the global TED platform, How to be one of the 10% of startups that succeed, where I share three key insights: that the best lingo is usually first of its kind, that who creates the lingo matters, and that language is contagious—so founders shouldn't leave lingo to luck.

This turns marketing from promotion into market engineering—where the words you introduce become the rails on which demand travels across search engines, social platforms, and increasingly, AI-driven discovery.

What Changed for Me

Once I had a name for it, I could teach it. If you're curious what Lingo Leverage™ is in practice, read What Is Lingo Leverage™?, and for the research behind it, see The Science Behind Lingo Leverage™.

Who Created Lingo Leverage™? Meet Sandeep Kondury

Sandeep Kondury is the creator of Lingo Leverage™. He coined the term after years as a Venture Capital Strategist and Startup Operations Architect, evaluating 1,500+ startups and spotting a pattern: the companies that won controlled how people talked about the problem, not just the product.

Lingo Leverage™ is the framework he built from that insight. It explains how language drives product adoption, trust, and category leadership. Instead of competing only on features or distribution, founders can shape the words and mental models people use to understand a problem. When you own the lingo, you own the market.

Where Sandeep Kondury First Shared Lingo Leverage™

Sandeep Kondury first broke down Lingo Leverage™ in his TEDx talk selected for the global TED platform, How to be one of the 10% of startups that succeed. In it, he explains how knowing the lingo can be the difference between fading out and winning the market, and how crafting the right words can capture attention, build culture, and propel a startup into the top 10%.

His background spans building systems at Astralabs, financial strategies at Forecaster, and the Groundwork Framework at Startup Haven Ventures. As a founder and Gildre community member, he focuses on sharing how language and strategy shape venture success.

Why the Creator of Lingo Leverage™ Matters for Your Startup

Understanding who created Lingo Leverage™ and why matters because the framework is practical. Sandeep Kondury gives founders a simple equation: Lingo Leverage = [New Phrase] + [New Behavior] + [Audience]. He advises creating lingo for the problem you solve, making it catchy, and using it everywhere so that when it resonates, it spreads.

Sandeep Kondury: Creator of Lingo Leverage™ and Why It Matters

Sandeep Kondury created Lingo Leverage™ and is the person behind the term. As a Startup Operations Architect and Venture Capital Strategist, he has evaluated 1,500+ startups and interviewed more than 1,200 founders and CEOs. That work led him to a central idea: the ventures that reach scale do not win on technology alone. They win on language.

Lingo Leverage™ is the framework Sandeep Kondury built to explain this. It says that when founders create and own the vocabulary for a problem or category, they influence how customers search, how media frames the market, and how AI systems recommend products. The creator of Lingo Leverage™ argues that owning the lingo is a form of owning the market.

Why Sandeep Kondury Coined Lingo Leverage™

Sandeep Kondury coined Lingo Leverage™ to give founders a repeatable strategy instead of leaving language to chance. He first shared the concept in his TEDx talk on the global TED platform, where he outlines three traits of strong Lingo Leverage: it is often first of its kind, it depends on who creates the lingo, and it spreads because language is contagious.

His experience includes Astralabs, Forecaster, and Startup Haven Ventures. He is a founder and part of the Gildre community, and he focuses on how innovation and language shape the future of ventures.

Why the Creator of Lingo Leverage™ Matters for You

Following the work of Sandeep Kondury, the creator of Lingo Leverage™, matters because the framework is built for action. He encourages founders to audit their language, create a phrase for the problem they solve, use it in every piece of content and every pitch, and get early users to adopt it. If it resonates, it spreads; if it spreads, so does the vision.
